Vicky Writes a Kids Worship Song!

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

Hey!

Last week in England at Spring Harvest, we started each morning of the conference with All Age Worship. I have never really led any kids worship, so I was a bit daunted…but I decided to try writing a kid’s song…just to really give it my best shot!

So on the back of a napkin, high in the sky on my United Airlines flight from LA to London Heathrow, I jotted down the lyrics and melody to “Jesus Is My Best Friend”… We ended up singing it every morning and it became something of a theme song to the week…how funny. (I was actually really excited about how much people liked it, as I’d been pretty shy about teaching it to the band and crowd as it was somewhat outside my usual comfort zone – I’ve never led a song with “actions” before!)

My friend Wendy Beech-Ward chipped in with a third verse, so she has now become a kid’s songwriter too! (She is starting a blog, so watch this space to find out when it launches…she has a lot of quality stuff to say and I know you are going to love reading it….)

Here is a version of the song with me teaching the actions!

Someone has even made their own YouTube version of it already…. Check it out:

The chord charts is below, as a lot of people have emailed me since the event, asking for the chords…

Question – Any kids worship leaders reading this Blog? Who are you and where do you lead worship? If you fancy trying this song out, let me know how it goes!

Love,
Vicky

Spring Harvest Conference, U.K.

Hey friends!

Just got back to the States from an amazing time at British worship conference “Spring Harvest”!

If you aren’t familiar with it, here’s a snapshot of the conference’s history from www.springharvest.org: “Originally launched as a one-week event in Prestatyn in 1979, Spring Harvest has become much more than just an annual event – albeit the largest Christian conference in Europe.  Today, we still run The Main Event each Easter, attracting some 45,000 people of all ages to one of a number of Weeks at more than one location”. I have been attending Spring Harvest since my teens and it has had a powerful impact on my walk with Jesus. So it was great to be able to serve there and give something back!

Here are a few pics from the week:

(Thanks to Photographer Emma Cromwell of TheCromMedia, for the sweet pics!!)  :-)

More thoughts, pics and musings from Spring Harvest to come….but for now jet lag is winning and I need to go to bed!

A Question to leave you with: “what conferences or events really impacted you in the early days of your relationship with Jesus?”

Love,

Vicky

Today I drove up to visit the Worship Leader Magazine team in San Juan Capistrano, CA. Thanks to the gang there for a great hang-time and an awesome lunch!

If you haven’t read their magazine before, check it out and get a subscription …it’s an amazing resource for anyone in worship ministry!

I’ll be speaking and singing at their National Worship Leader’s Conference in Leawood Kansas in July, so come along!

Do you read or subscribe to any magazines about worship? Anything you’d recommend to the community here – mags / books / training resources?

So I’m still loving my digital camera… It’s one of the best things I’ve ever bought… so much fun! I’m taking it to England to snap some shots of my family and homeland to show you on here :-)

Recently I was at the beach in San Diego and saw a guy flying two cool kites…and some beautiful yellow flowers too… Thought I’d try and capture it all on my Nikon!

Photos always remind me that life passes us by so quickly. David wrote in the book of Psalms that “life is like a vapor, like a shadow, like a mist”. Its here one moment, then it’s gone. Another great quote I read recently was “We don’t remember our life in days, we remember it in moments”. It’s true – our main memories of life aren’t categorized into years, months and days. They are simply snapshot moments of the times in our life that most powerfully affected us. It reminds me to stop, look and let me heart and mind take those snapshots – and to not miss the beauty that’s all around me!

I took the shots above with my 17-70mm lens. I’m testing out a different one – a 50mm – over the next couple weeks (thanks to Jonathan Paul for loaning it to me!).  Anyone got any advice on how to get the best results from a 50mm? I’m wanting to use it for portraits, where the face is razor sharp and the background is super blurry, for maximum depth of field. Should I just set it on ‘Auto’ and snap? Or are there techniques using the different settings like “P”, “A” and “S” that can get me more of what I’m looking for in the photos?

Peace!

Vicky
