Another Cooking Disaster!

I’ve ALWAYS been a terrible cook!!… In the spirit of new year’s
resolutions, today I took a deep breath and nervously wielded a frying pan,
attempting to make cheese quesadillas for me and my house-mates. I
thought all was going brilliantly until smoke started filling the
room… Oh dear, yet another ‘domestic disaster’ to add to my list!! I
photographed it so you could see the blackened, cremated remains!

Anyway, it was a reminder today that even when things go wrong we need to keep on trying!
I do have resolutions this year, and I hope to step up to their
challenges. But overall, my main resolution for 2008  is to live one
day at a time and try to be as much ‘in the moment’ as I possibly can.
So much of life speeds by and I miss it because my head is already
somewhere in the future.

Father God, help me live in the present…drinking it in…not
missing one opportunity to love well, to listen well, to notice when
people need a kind word to cheer them up… and Lord, someday make me
able to cook rockin’ quesadillas without burning the house down. Amen :

What a precious pic! LOL! I’m a blackened-chef, too. (smile) Most of the food I attempt comes out looking like that. That’s why I leave most of the cooking to others.

This is why if it doesn’t come in a box or can – I don’t cook it.

Bummer. This is why I like recipes. Cooking can be as easy as following directions. Unless of course you try to get fancy.

I’d start with the microwavables and move on from there!

    I love that pic! LOL.

I like to cook, and do ok with it most of the time. When I get the time that is.

My worst cooking accident involved a large kettle full of macaroni.

I’d just rollerbladed 50 miles – for the first time – and without adequate water along. I got back to the house both ravenous and a bit delirious. I threw four boxes of macaroni into a huge pot and set the timer for however long it was supposed to boil for. I pretty much passed out on the couch right there and never heard the timer go off. Some hours later, I woke up to find that that the whole huge batch of macaroni had fused into a single piece. I turned the pot upside down over a plate and the thing came out – with a huge sucking sound. It looked like some kind of ridiculous huge cake… or a cylindrical brain. Ug.

I’ve since done that trip a couple times with one of my younger sisters. It’s quite pleasant if you leave enough time and bring the right supplies. Especially if you stop for lunch half-way at a nice outdoor restaurant.
