Buckhead…A Brilliant Weekend!

Dsc0398tm

Happy Monday, Blog-friends!

I got back late last night from what we British call a "truly brilliant" weekend, visiting Buckhead Church in Atlanta to hang out and lead worship. Here’s a snapshot of me and my team with Carlos & Heather Whittaker, our new and awesome friends who invited us and hosted us. (L to R: Stephen Proctor, me, Heather, Carlos, Jason Francis)

We arrived Saturday afternoon and did Soundcheck with new friend Rachel Bos, then headed to the Whittakers for an amazing dinner. Heather’s oven was broken, so somehow she cooked us an incredible meal in a toaster oven – read all about it on her Blog! The truth is I couldn’t have made that glorious meal, even if I’d had a FULL kitchen of PROFESSIONAL ovens at my disposal!!! Ah, I need to learn to cook one day! Heather has inspired me : ) It was SUCH a great evening…

Sunday morning, we arrived at Buckhead Church at 6.30am and did a service run through. Their Production – lights, sound, video and all things technical are incredible! Check out some photos of how  great it looked during worship on Sunday….

After the 9am and 11am services, we hit California Pizza Kitchen in the Lennox Mall for some yummy lunch, where I also got to go to my favorite store  – Urban Outfitters : ) Then we headed back for the 6pm service..really cool to get to play with the band 3 times in one day and get to know them all. This is the church’s Green Room for chilling in between services…its beautiful…

My set was Yesterday Today and Forever & Everlasting God on guitar (with their smokin’ band!), then Above All Else on piano.

If you don’t already read Carlos & Heather’s Blogs, I think you should check ‘em out! RagamuffinSoul and Whittakerwoman. Here’s a pic of their 3 kids to make you smile… I had even got a goodnight kiss on Saturday from Losiah, their tiny and super-cute adopted Korean son!

So tell me, how was your weekend? What did you do?…

Besides not having you to lead ;) we had a great time of worship…did a Charlie Hall song “All We Need” that I love and really felt God’s Spirit stir things up a bit. Also, my daughter Emilie helped me lead. Awesome times!

    Hi,
I’ve been reading your blog for a few weeks an heaven’t commented yet, but I think now is the right time! I really enjoy what and how you write and that theres is very often so much positive in your words!
I’m from Germany, so maybe my english is not correct. Sorry for that!
Now to topic :)! My weekend was so incredible, that I still cant get it. I was on a Youth Conference and God really spoke to me and showed me where to go with my life, after I will finish my apprenticeship! And later I was on a Youth Service where God touched my heart so powerful, like I never felt it before! I’m so filled with happinness and gratitude its amazing. I really can say that Jesus is alive and he is working on us! Praise Him for that!

Thanks for your nice blog and keep on with it!
    Be blessed
    Nils

i’ll tell you something vicks, you should have been in england on saturday! it felt like a proper english summer day! clear blue sky, sun shining :) i even got burnt on my face and chest! got strap marks! guess its just that im not used to that weather here! but it’s back to april showers now :( shame.
sunday was a good day too, had a new elder welcomed into the church. god really spoke some powerful words in the morning. so fab to see people touched!
but i’ve got a question for you now. as you always ask the questions i thought i’d turn it around! lol!
what does it actually mean to fear God? i know its not to fear as in to be scared, but it say we should come before God boldly. he says we shouldnt be afraid. so what kind of fear is it? would be good to hear what you think :)

my weekend was not the most eventful but I enjoyed it. watched juno with the parentals, walked aimlessly around the mall for 3 hours, made some latte’s, clean out my car, checked out the image church.

Alright, you asked for it! :o) You caught me on a “home” weekend, so it was especially action-packed and fun-filled…

My weekend started on Thursday when I flew back home to Michigan (got in about midnight). Had a nice time in the airports and on the flights – talking to the interesting people I happened to meet. Hung with Dad and a couple of my sisters when I got to my parent’s place, and then crashed in bed about 2 am or so.

Slept in ’till about noon (nine am, my time) on Friday. Went to my place and got a few things done and had a little quiet time on the piano. Went to my sister’s elementary school and helped set up for Family Fun Night and also met a few more of my mom’s friends from her Mom’s In Touch prayer group. Enjoyed attending and shooting some photos for the Friday evening session of a conference with Doug Addison and Mark Gurley (a friend who helped start the Healing Rooms of Grand Rapids).

Got up a bit earlier on Saturday and enjoyed going to the second and third sessions of the conference. Took my sisters and a few friends to lunch at Uno’s between sessions, but was disappointed in the pizza crust. Apparently the chain versions of the restaurant do a “cheater” version of pizza crust that takes 10 minutes to cook instead of the 45 minute version that they make at the original location in Chicago. Oh well; everybody else seemed to enjoy it! I guess it wasn’t too bad… :o) After the conference, we did some family reading (The Silver Chair) back at my parents’ place. Mom’s great at reading out loud… every character has its own voice… so much fun! Picked up Mom’s mom (Grandma Burt) at the airport. It was so good to see her back in Michigan again; she moved to Arizona 15 years ago. After that, I went bowling with the two older of my sisters and some friends from our small group.

On Sunday, we went to church in the morning and then spent the afternoon and early evening with Grandma at her new place. It was fun touring around with her and seeing how much she loved everything! In the evening, I got together with a dear friend who’s been in Asia for a few years now. It was so good to hang with him and his wife and – for the first time – to see their two adorable daughters. Headed back home later in the evening and played a great game of Pictionary with the fam.

This morning, I had a good trip back out to Seattle, and now it’s just about time to head into work for a late evening in the labs.

cool pics vicks! Seems you had an awesome weekend… :D

My weekend was filled with visiting friends, sitting in a classy pub talking about philosophy, religion, politics and life in general. Saturday was my relaxing day, went to market, bought yummie things and decided to cook myself a proper dinner which took me 160 minutes to prepare. You picture yourself in the kitchen for such a long time? Hehe, I had a blast and it tasted great. It’s called “Rendang” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rendang)

Sunday was a great day, sunshine, visited a new starting church in the morning and in the evening went to my own church. Both services were good! :)

Oh am I’m excited coz this weekend I also ordered a ticket to LONDON! In June there will be the Passion world tour and I’ll be part of it as well!!!

lets see, what did i do this weekend?
well, my “weekend” was on thursday instead of the actual weekend.
Got to hang out with onld and new friends. we went to the opry mills mall and then the Carter House in Franklin. It was a really cool. The house and barn have like over a 1000 bullet holes from the Battle of Franklin. Then after that chilled and watched Grey’s and Lost. Neither show i actually watch but it was cool to just hang. That was my “weekend.” and then during the actual weekend, i worked…

    Ah… weekends…

Mine was ok. Still very drained from the funeral of my friends wife so I was pretty subdued. Went to a play Friday night then finished a song I wrote for Samantha (friends wife) on Saturday.

Spent several hours ripping apart my dirt bike. This wonderful new gas they are selling went bad in my carburetor and so I had to take it apart and clean it. It was really gross. But, it’s running great now and is still life threatening fast. :) (How fast is it? Well… if your Jeep had the same power to weight ratio as my bike you would no longer have a 200 horsepower engine… you’d have a 900 horsepower engine.) That would be a sweet Jeep…

Sunday was my standard 15 hour work day. And that’s about it.

And not that you need my advice… but in regards to the fellow’s questions above… stay away from #7. You don’t need any stalkers or guys hitting on you on your blog.

Hey Vic, Glad you had such a awesome weekend. Sounds like it was truly uplifting. I too had a great weekend.I worked a lot harder than what i wanted ,but it was worth the labor. I helped set up the Reign down festival on friday and than worked the festival sat and sunday was clean up. I shared a blog about this at myspace. It truly was awesome seeing God at work and feeling his presence so powerfully. I wish everyone could of been there. It was truly a day of repentance for those who were serious. It is hard to give up things we can’t seem to conrtol, but with God’s help and our true love to do whats right and please him ,,all things are posible. Well bless you and may he contiue to lead and guide you into his perfect will. In his shadow and under his wings I am,,Bubby Coale

Ah! CPK!! I remember that from my days in San Diego back in 2002 – it was the barbeque chicken salad that did it for me..! Mmmm, mmmm!
Weekend was cool – our young people led the church service for the first time! It’s taken some time for the ‘grown ups’ to get to the point of encouraging them to be involved to such a degree.. We live in a small parish.. But it was excellent, and I hope people came away feeling blessed and challenged by the vision, the energy, the passion that the youth of our church have for Christ! Bring it on!
    Love, Gx

I had a pretty awesome weekend. All startin gon thursday with tutors going on strike so had the day off! Had much fun while having a carpet picnic as like usual it was raining here in the UK! Although it began to clear up a it and by the weekend was toasting hot! I also admit I managed to get sunburnt and it felt very hot Pretty awesome time at church on sunday chilled out, helped to lead worship then ran young church for the little people. Had a bring and share lunch with our church family and then me and my best mate went round our village ( in shorts and T-shirts I may add) taking pictures of signposts and bins organising quizz for our local youth group! Glad you had an awesome weekend. Realised how diddy my church is compared to some. Don’t think i’ve ever been to as big a church as those pics…but I do live in a tiny village outside Oxford!

    With love

    Hey Vicky ,

well lets see… this weekend on Saturday my sisters and I lead worship… oh my goodness it was an amusing experience just GETTING to the place! haha…

it was at an actual ranch… in the country… and we kept getting lost and having to turn around… we entered a dirt road that had a sign posted “ABSOLUTELY NO DUST” what kind of sign is THAT for the entrance to a dirt road? hahaha…

then we ended up at several dead ends… and the time we were supposed to be there was getting nearer… and nearer… we pulled into a driveway to turn around and the Mailbox said “CROWDER” my sister started pounding on the windows of our van yelling “DAVID! DAVID! HELP US! WE ARE LOST!! HELP US!!!” hahahahaha

My Mom tells my Dad he should just call the guy back for more specific directions… Dad’s response… “we have to be close… i can feeeel it” hahaha…

    15 minutes later…

My Dad says “so…….. how do you know when you have gone too far???” my sisters and I are laughing hysterically in the back of the van… and considering that we were like REALLY close to being late… it had to have been God…

so Daddy finally calls the guy and he is like “WHERE are you???” and he proceeded to tell Dad he had NO idea where we were to give us directions… haha… so we backtrack… and get there with like 10 mins to setup and run a sound-check…

and discover… they have NO monitors… sweet. haha… its amazing leading worship TOTALLY by faith… hahaha…

the people were AMAZING… REALLY into it and responsive… the presence of God was so in the room… it was great :D

and as a suprise! they took up an offering for us! WOOHOO!!! we went and did it just because we love to worship… we didnt expect to get paid… but WOOHOO for the bonus blessing! :D

and got to meet some amazing people…

    Sunday was church :D YAY!!!!!!!

amazing sermon… great worship… and got to hang out with friends afterwards… it was a great day :D

    so… um… that’s pretty much my weekend… life, with my family… haha.. NEVER a dull moment ;)

    :D

My weekend was not that exciting. At the moment we are moving to a new appartment which is quite nice. It’s only about 15min away (by car).
Saturday we cleaned the appartment and started to place in our things. The weekend before we went to my parents in Germany to pick up our furniture (we drove more than 2400km that weekend). The place we lived the last 1 1/2 years had everything, so we didn’t need our furniture here.

I did some worship at home on Sunday. I don’t go to church at the moment. Some months ago I tried to start again several times, but the young people there just ignored me. It was really frustrating being there alone in a crowd of people. Then it’s better to do it for yourself alone at home.

Apart from that I did nothing. Just relaxing as the two weeks before were full of actions :-)

Something to add… This wasn’t from the weekend, but it’s very exciting for me. The vocal band RESCUE just released their newest CD and did one of my songs! (They even let me sing a bit on it!) You’ve got to spend a few minutes and go listen to it!!!

    Just go to http://www.myspace.com/rescuemusic

It’s “Grace”. And they did an awesome job! And so you know, ALL of what you hear is created by the human voice, even the drums. It’s great.

    Vicky,
I’m normally leading worship down at my church on St. Simons Island, GA, but was up in Norht Atlanta this past weekend. I’d really hoped to get down to Buckhead Church to see ya, but would up going to Northpoint’s Browns Bridge instead .. but I know it was awesome at Buckhead.

    God bless,
    Fred
