GMA Week, Day 1!

I’m excited to be Blogging from GMA Week, for CCM Magazine! This blog will be featured on CMCentral.com, their site! So Here’s the run down on Day 1 of Gospel Music Week…

Firstly,
I thought I’d show you a sneak peek of me getting my hair done… I
figured some crazy hair dye would be a fun way to prepare for the week,
so I went to the salon and got my two-tone blond and black hair color
re-done! Years ago I used to have a desk job in an office, so now that
I’m a full time worship leader/songwriter I like embracing the
opportunity to have crazy hair for once in my life!

Today, Sunday, I kicked off the morning with a 6am alarm clock
call. I drove from my home in Franklin to the Nashville Rennaissance
Hotel for the 8am Morning Worship..early…owch! Beth Moore spoke and
Travis Cottrell led worship. Both rocked! Travis hit some seriously big
powerful notes for an 8am set, which was impressive! At the worship
event I ran into Bill Martin from the JOYFM radio station in FL. He is
a reader of my Blog (vickybeeching.com) and it was fun to chat about Blogging with him! Here’s a snapshot of us.

After that I headed to the Nashville classic food place "The
Pancake Pantry" with friends. After some Sweet Potato Pancakes, I
headed back to GMA.

Had coffee with Julie Reid of Worship Leader
Magazine, a great chat with Bill and Kathy who run Alive Festival, then
some Earl Grey tea with one of my precious mentors Melody Green.
Following that I headed to the evening Worship Event where Michael W,
Israel and Mandisa led us in awesome praise! Rebecca St James shared
some excellent words about Compassion International and an offering was
taken – I forget the exact figures but a really encouraging amount of
money was raised for Compassion tonight! Great to know that children’s
lives were changed tonight by those donations!

So its been a brilliant kick off for GMA 2008 as the day was so
filled with worship and teaching. Feels like Jesus really is the center
of it all. Plus I got to eat pancakes, which makes any day a great
day!! More to come tomorrow (blogging that is, not pancakes….thats my
carb quota for the week!)

Been to Nashville. Loved it there. Only time I watched the Dove awards is when my friend Ryan was up for one when he was still with Kutless. Got to support your friends! You up for anything this year VB?

Actually. I got lost in Nashville. It was in a good part of town though… it was in the huge Opryland Hotel! I walked around for hours trying to find my room…

Gotta love the hair! I was hanging out with a great stylist tonight ( http://HairByJoey.com/ ) after church, and maybe I’ll give him a try next week instead of my normal stylist. Sadly, I have to stick with something at least slightly more staid for my current profession. :o)

Sweet potato pancakes? Sounds yummy. And hanging with Melody, that’s so great that you have that relationship! I’m sure that you’re a huge blessing to her as well.

Sadly, I’ve never been to GMA week. Believe it or not, I don’t even know if I’ve seen the Dove Awards! However, I’ll be staying in Franklin in a couple weeks from tonight, and I can’t wait to attend Randy Elrod and Spence Smith’s LifeWork 2.0 that Tuesday.

I don’t have a lot of plans yet for three of the four days I’ll be in town, but I’m sure it’ll be good, whatever I end up doing! If anyone has any recommendations, I’m all ears… :o)

Sorry to sound niave but as a teenager in the Uk i have to ask can someone explain this whole GMA thing? I’ve done some research on thw web but i’m still slightly confused!!

Sounds like a great first day to GMA week. This is my first GMA week. im one of the volunteers running around being a classroom/door monitor for stuff. And so far its been great. but man has it been exhausting. to top it off i have a paper that is due in about 8 1/2 hrs that hasnt even been started. eek! Im also a seat filler for the doves so that is very exciting. ok, need to start this paper…

im a little confused too. im guessing its an american thing cos being from the uk, i dont actually know what you guys are talking about! what are dove awards??
but other than that, love the hair vicks, looks fab! and the pancakes sound delish!! mmmmmmmmmm…..
i have to say though, i only ever have pancakes with lemon and sugar, maybe i should try some other fillings :)
whatever GMA is, im praying it goes well for you and you have a brill time!

Well, first of all I have to say that I only read two blogs. Your’s and Beth Moore’s, and you were both at GMA week. Why was I not envited! Just kidding. Loved seeing you in all your hair goop glory! I live in Ohio and have not been to GMA week, but I have been to Music in the Rockies, another GMA event, and it changed my perception of worship in a big way.
My husband is a musician, I am not, not even close. My passion is Greek, very bookish. Anyway, The experience of being surrounded by musicians dedicating their gifts to God was something I had never experienced. I took away a passion for singing God’s praise that has not gone away, and I pray never will!

Well, my GMA memories are sadly not great. When I was touring with Broken Heart, it seemed like we always had some sort of conflict with a record label person or a management person…
of course, in retrospect, much of that probably had to do with the leadership of OUR band…
Also, it just always seemed playing NashVegas was tougher than most anywhere else. Kind of an arms-crossed, we’re-all-professionals, show-us-what-you-got kind of attitude.
But hey…that was in the late 80′s…

Nashvegas is a great town. Haven’t spent too much time there, but have some great buddies at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, the best in the southeast, and one of the best in the country!

I read on Shaun Groves’ blog http://www.shaungroves.com/shlog/comments/feeling_appreciated/ about the Compassion event and Shaun called you the “blogging brit”. I post frequently on his site as “shaunfan” although I’m also a “blogging britfan”. I’m looking forward to the Dove Awards tonight. I’d really like to see Needtobreathe and Future of Forestry each win in their categories along with Brenton Brown for “Everlasting God”, David Crowder for anything he’s up for and personally I’d like to see “Tears of the Saints” by Leeland win song of the year. Vicky, thanks for the props! I was so glad to run into you. My only regret was that we didn’t get to share an Earl Grey. Mine was the grande soy misto (50/50) at Starbucks, a bit fancy, but what to do when away from your own teapot?

I believe GMA week was a boon for the Kingdom. There are so many fine people in this industry, yet we are all redeemed sinners. It seems like knowing that truth is a key to being used by God.

Sipping my last Earl Grey of the week, I blogged about some of my personal feelings, mostly with reference to what we do in radio. Take a minute and check it out, if you will.

You are so thoughtful, your blog is always compelling, and I can’t WAIT to hear what comes out of these writing sessions! We in your blog-reading community will add our prayers for creativity and stamina.
