Hey Vicky! I pre-ordered this book on your recommendation, and I got it today... only to find out it's a *girls* devotional. :o) You didn't even *warn* us guys! ;o)

The pink flames and butterflies on the cover didn't faze me. I didn't actually even notice them at first other than to think it was a cool design, but upon a cursory skimming, I find that it is most definitely written to the female population.

It seems obvious that purity is a good topic for all of us...

I'd imagine you've read your friend's book - especially since your comment is on the back cover. You do recommend this devotional for guys too, right? Just checkin'.

Jamie,

I'm not sure if you'll check back here, but this is my two cents about the benefit of purity. Two things come to mind offhand. First of all, because God is a loving God who made us and knows us intimately, He knows best how we function and how we break down. When He tells us how to live, it's for our best good, and this holds for this area just like with everything else. Saving physical intimacy for marriage allows it to be what it was meant to be; anything else ends up cheating us and falling far short of what it could be. Secondly, by living a life of purity, there is so much potential pain that we completely avoid. So there's good to be gained and hurt to be sidestepped - all by obeying God and following His perfect and loving design for us. :o)

For me, if it weren't for these "friends in faith," I would not be as far in my walk with God. I love to surround myself with people that inspire me to do more. Having heart-to-heart talks about faith, missions, you calling in life, and the struggles you are facing is the greatest thing you can share with a friend. One thing that I also have that I love is a Prayer Budddy. The two of us share all of our struggles with each other so that we can have back-up when praying about them. This is one thing I would encourage any of you who don't already have one to get. It has helped me through hard times. I know that she is always there to support me.

One thing that I struggle with, however, is explaining to non-believers how we can have so much fun staying pure. How do you deal with this? What do you tell these people? I'm FOR SURE having fun, but its not worldly fun, you know?

Any thoughts on the subject would be awesome.

Make Waves,

I saw your tweet where you needed a bass player or guitar player. I am a music director in NYC looking for work. Shoot me an email if you want to hear recordings of me playing.

I my thank, God my Father, and my Lord Jesus Christ for giving me my tiwn brother all these years, for I am convicened that that godly friendship, (together striving to exault the Fame of Jesus Christ, contending for the Faith in Jesus)is of such a kind that it is even rare among ture believers. I am truly a happy debtor to the Grace of my Wonderful God. Amen.

Also a life of worship to our Lord Jesus Christ is nothing more than a life of Love to Him. If I was married, my love to my wife would be separatting myself from all others to enjoy only her. The same with our Master and Husband, Jesus Christ. Just as God made woman from man, so the church, before thew world was made, was made from Jesus. Which is why no soul is even .01% complete until it is united to that from which it came from, the eternally Blessed God, Jesus.

Our church is a small mission station of the Diocese of the South of the Orthodox Church in America. We do not have a priest to serve the Divine Liturgy for us every Sunday. So, we have to rely on a priest from another parish to come serve for us and we can only get him once a month on a Saturday. Although we have a small number of Orthodox in our community, we are still very glad to see our priest and deacon when they come. Sometimes some other members of his parish come as well. Having him once a month helps all of us to stay connected with God and we find it very encouraging to see others who share the same beliefs and values that we do. There is a saying among us Orthodox: "Everyone who falls falls alone, but no one is saved alone." People are saved in community with others who are seeking the Kingdom of God. (We view salvation as a process and not as an instantaneous act that occurs at a particular point in time. Salvation to us is more than just having our sins pardoned. It also involves acquiring the likeness of God through participation in the divine energies. Believe it or not, this is what the Church Fathers taught!)
