My Album Is Almost Finished!!

Hello from the studio!

It’s been an exciting month…lots of recording and the album is almost finished! There will be a 3 track “E.P.” release in February, then the full length album in April. Not long now!

The photo above is Stu G from Delirious recording guitars onto my album, over in the U.K. So it’s an album with contributions from across the globe!

Producer Jonny MacIntosh (below) is doing an excellent job here in San Diego. Here he is at the desk where it all happens! We are having a blast in the studio and coming up with really cool creative ideas. Can’t wait for you to hear the strings we’ve had recorded in New York… I was blown away when I heard them! The album has a great mix of huge rockin’ band songs, beautiful strings, and intimate piano moments. I think a great album should feel like a walk through hills and valleys, where you see light and shade, different horizons, and refreshing variety. I believe the album has that, yet all tied together with great cohesiveness. Thanks Jonny for doing such a great job!!!!!!!

We’ve been making a new yellow ‘post-it’ note for everything still left to do, and sticking them around the computer monitor. You can see them in the photo above. So each day we take the yellow ‘post-it’ notes down and cross stuff of our list. We don’t have many post-its left now.. almost there!!!!!!!!!!! Sam Gibson has already mixed three songs (the EP) and starts mixing the whole album between now and the first week of January….exciting :-)

Here is Tim Devlin recording some bass guitar earlier this week…

Evan Wickham played piano on this incredible $100k Steinway piano! It is THE best recorded piano I’ve ever heard… the overtones and the nuances of it’s sound are amazing.

Mark Suhonen played some drums too this week…here he is (sorry it’s a bad quality photo… I snapped it on my iPhone!)

During the making of this album, these Tootsie Pops have been consumed in large quantities!

But these British sweets are still my favorite… “Percy Pig” candy…made from real fruit juice… Available at a “Marks and Spencers” near you!!

Here’s another poor quality but fun shot I snapped on my iPhone while Jonny and are were working yesterday!

I’ve been drinking LOADS of water, as it always helps me sing at my best and coffee messes up my voice.. so I’ve drunk more water this month than EVER in my life!

Here’s Jonny laying down some great guitars with his Gibson Firebird!

“What are your Christmas plans? What is your favorite part about Christmas – other than Jesus of course! Do you have favorite traditions or songs or things you always look forward to?”

Love,

I was starting to get concerned that there was no electric guitar... I finally scrolled down to see the Firebird... what a relief... ;)

    ROCK ON Vicky...
  • So far as traditions go, on Christmas Eve we make and eat cookies for lunch and have a taco dinner with mulled cider - Mom and Dad had tacos (only thing in fridge that looked good) at like 2 AM when they got up to give each other presents (couldn't wait any longer) their first Christmas together after they were married.

This year we are moving our Christmas forward a few days so as to celebrate with my brother and sister in law who will be with her family in New York for Christmas day. So our Christmas Eve was today and Christmas day is tomorrow. It's been a great weekend so far, and I can't wait for tomorrow. G'night!

  • It looks like a fantastic time and I cannot wait to hear the stuff! Where is the coffee cups lying around?

For Christmas, I might actually get to take a trip to NorCal and see family. We miss our family since moving down here to the sunny SoCal.
  • That rocks! Lots of exciting stuff going on right now; thanks for sharing all the great pics! We've got some great Christmas traditions... but I'm headed to bed, so I'll tell you later.

Question about the EP though. Are those three songs exact copies of tracks from the full album, or are any of them a little different? Of course the main benefit is getting the music a few months earlier... :D
