Inception – What On Earth?

So I just got out of watching “Inception”.

And I’m not really sure what to think or say… it was long and very complex. And I feel like I’ll be thinking about it for a while.

I looked online for a simple review to help me distill the movie into a few simple elements, but judging by this summary, it can’t be done!

“The movie was “a conceptual tour de force, applying a vivid sense of procedural detail to a fiendishly intricate yarn set in the labyrinth of the subconscious, the writer-director has devised a heist thriller for surrealists, a Jungian‘s Rififi, that challenges viewers to sift through multiple layers of (un)reality”.

Hmmm… now that description was about as complex as the movie itself.

Anyone got any thoughts or interpretations?..

Anyone walk away from it with any spiritual insights, or reflections on what the movie shows us about life?

I’d love to hear them. Then I’ll share mine.

I quite like this interpretation of the film by critic Devin Faraci reads it as an allegory of the filmmaking process. Saito represents the studio head who orders the project, and who insists on overseeing the work in progress. Arthur, who is responsible for making sure the job is organized and runs smoothly on schedule, is the producer. Cobb, who is in charge of executing the mission, but who brings his own personal dreams, ideas, and agenda into the works, is the director. Adriadne, who is hired by Cobb to design the world of the dream, is the screenwriter. Eames, who impersonates Browning, is the actor. Yusuf, who supplies the team with what they needs to do their work, is the special effects technician. And Fischer is the audience for whom the whole show is put on for.

My girlfriend and I walked out after 20 MINUTES! We just thought this is pointless, because every scene could just be unreal or a dream, so what plot is there to follow?

It is also actually fictional. As far as I am aware it is not physically possible to actually enter someones sleeping dreams. Although it is interesting to consider what affects the way that our mind perceives reality. Only God is truth.

I think in the end Leo’s character although he paid a high price to protect what he thought was reality for his wife ……was in the end willing to sacrifice reality to be with his children. (hence not bothering to see if the spinning top was still spinning). Question…..when does our needs become worth more than our hunger for reality and at what point will we sacrifice it all for those needs.???? a clever film.

I loved the movie, while fantastical that was the point — you’re in a dream, the dream is reality and therefore anything can happen. The spinning top was genius, without an ending people will talk about the movie. A friend of mine is adamant than Nolan makes the best final frames in cinema — Batman Begins with the Joker card for example.
It’s been a great summer for movies but that one I think I might go see again :)

I absolutely loved the movie – every moment of it. And, well, I think the whole thing was a “dream” – I think he performed inception on himself, using the asian businessman to plant the idea in his head that he could return to his family. Once he did “return” to his family, his children were wearing the same clothes as in his memories… That’s what triggered my theory. I think he’s lost in the infinite recesses of his own dream.

I personally think Nolan is doing more to get people to think about real Truth and Morality than anyone in the “Church” world right now! I have had more conversations about Jesus with unbelieving friends because of Inception than any other format in years…Guess it all depends on your frame of reference and environment.
