Just realized I didn't say anything about social networking… I don't care much for MySpace these days, and I've avoided signing up for Linked-In, but I really do like Facebook (and I have to be careful not to spend too much time on there). It's been a great tool to connect with friends from all over (space and time), and to keep in touch with friends and family back in the Midwest especially. I've got it installed on my Blackberry, so if somebody gets a hold of me there, it's just as quick as giving me a call on the phone but it doesn't interrupt what I'm doing at the moment. I like that. I pretty much boycott all the Facebook add-on apps, and don't quite understand why everybody else doesn't do the same thing… :o)

As to how social networking impacts the world of worship, I haven't even thought about that idea before. Hmmm… interesting. Blogging isn't really social networking exactly, but I think it's really cool how you've used it to connect with people all over. One thought I've been mulling over for a while about networking/connecting in general is about each of our individual “callings” as Christians and the arenas they play out in. I think some Christians are called to connect primarily inward to the church, and this necessarily limits them in how they connect to “the world.” Others might be called to interface more primarily with the world outside the church, and this limits how much time and effort they are able to point toward church-specific stuff. Maybe this isn't even a life-long thing, but could vary from one season of life to another. Personally, I feel the tug of both (as probably do most Christians to some degree), and I don't always know best how to make that work. My blog is one place where I run into this. There are some topics and conversations it'd be fun to bring up with church friends, but that would make no sense at all to anybody outside the church. For instance, anything having to do with the topic of how Christians ought to relate to the world… it's something that unchurched people might not even have any framework for. I feel that if I want to build a place where I can use as a point of connection with anybody I come into contact with, I should be mindful of this to some degree. As you can tell, I haven't figured this out; I'm still looking for revelation. :o)
