Photos From Disney!

Hi friends,

Here are some photos of my time speaking and singing at Disney World’s “Narnia Day” and of me playing in the Park during the free time!

Most of the people attending were home-schoolers, but we also had parents and Disney staff sitting in…so I tried to make it something they’d all enjoy. We got great feedback, so I felt really encouraged! The kids said C S Lewis came to life as I described him…it was fun to share how much of a hero Lewis is to me, and to show them photos of Oxford and the places that both he and I walked, studied and lived life.

I also took a few hours with John Horton and his family (John works in Marketing at Disney and he masterminded the whole event – great work John!) and we hung out in the park. Check out the photos – we started in the Hollywood Studios area, then later I went to “Epcot” and visited the ‘nations of the world’ including England (with its red telephone box!) and China with incredible huge Chinese buildings. Had great sushi in ‘Japan’, watched the epic firework display over the water, then called it a night!

A friend of mine, Kristina Moller, came to keep me company, pray and take photos. She discovered the amazing technique of highlighting red in a black and white photo! Aren’t they cool? (thanks Kristina, you were an amazing help!)

My favorite moment of the talk was being able to tell the kids how Aslan is one of my favorite pictures of God -His mighty power, roaring at his enemies, then his intimacy and joy, rolling on the grass laughing with the children, then catching them up on his back and flying with them, all smiles and delight. Some of the kids might never have realized that God wants to be close to them; wants to laugh and cry with them. It was a really special moment to get to share God’s character with them through Aslan. I hope their hearts will be stirred to get to know Him better as a result.

This weekend I’m leading worship all four services at church in San Diego. Come if you live nearby!

What are you guys doing this weekend?

Vicky

Just stopping by to say a big Thank You for speaking at Disney. My family and I really enjoyed your message and your music.
  • this sounds so cool. I too love the image of Aslan.
  • Hi Vicky!
My wonderful friend Kristina told me about your blog. It was so great to come here and see her awesome pictures of you and your trip to Disney World. I am fascinated by your involvement in the Narnia talks and it was cool to read about your experiences in sharing with the kids. I know from personal experience that K is a great prayer warrior and I am sure that the two of you had the best time!
Thanks for your music, Vicky....Captivated is one of my all-time favorites...
May God continue to bless you...
  • I think the Ultrasone headphones I tried out were either the HFI-2200 or the PRO 650.

The 1/4" outputs from the CP33 are pretty noisy - even when hooked directly to my Mackies. Looks like I'm gonna give the CP300 a shot with hopes that the XLR outputs will have much less hum/buzz. Part and parcel with that upgrade come twice the polyphony, price, and weight. At least one of those three is good... :o)
  • Sounds like a wonderful opportunity you had and at Disney to boot! It is one of the "happiest places on earth!!:)" I was so excited when we sang one of your songs for the first time at church last Sunday! I have been telling our music pastor about you! It was "Yesterday, Today and Forever!" I also LOVE your song "At All Times" God used it to speak into my life a few years ago! Keep pressing on. My prayers go with you, Karyne

  • Sounds like you made a great choice! I havent played the CP33 but I know the whole series is excellent. I'll check out those headphones too as I need a new pair!
  • Vicky - here I am back after surprising myself by making my purchase at the local Guitar Center (I usually move more slowly on this sort of thing) - and I find that you've replied to my question; thank you! Your input is very valuable and makes me feel pleased with my choice of the Yamaha CP series. I ended up going with the CP33 after playing and listening closely to both. I felt like the touch was slightly better on the CP300, but I liked the sound better on the CP33. I was really torn between the two keyboards, but I've got 60 days before my decision is final. Until then I can still choose to spring for the CP300 and won't lose anything on the deal.

For all the musicians here, I should mention that I used a very nice pair of Ultrasone headphones when comparing the keyboards. That was my first experience with that brand, but I was quite impressed.
  • Jonathan - the Yamaha pianos are my favorite... the CP250 is the one I always try and get on the road...the CP300 sounds like the next one up in the series... they have nicely weighted keys and great reverb...I'm a fan of them!

  • I don't have any really big plans for this weekend. I've got some web work to do for a friend, and that's gonna take some time. I should do some cleaning as well.

I'm also thinking of stopping by Guitar Center for either a Yamaha CP33 or a CP300. I've got a Studio Logic VMK-188 controller and have been using that with a few different soft synths installed on my HP PC. However, with all of the computer problems I've been having lately, it's pretty much amounted to not having a playable instrument.

(If anybody here has any suggestions on electronic pianos, I'd love to hear your thoughts! I'm looking for something with a great grand piano sound and touch; don't care about the other built in sounds or whether or not it has built-in speakers. I'll be using it with some good soft synths once I get my Mac Pro when they come out with the next revision – hopefully in a month or two...)

Ok, back on topic... Glad you had a great time at Disney; enjoyed Kristina's cool photos, and wish I could have heard you sing and talk about Lewis – I'm sure it was great!

It'd be sweet to swing by one of your church services sometime – maybe later this year; it'd be a great excuse to finally get in my first visit to California...

    Vicky,

I am glad the "Narnia Day" was encouragement to the kids being interested in understanding the The Lord attributes characteristics being portrayed through Aslan. This weekend going a a birthday party for my younger brother.

    God Bless,

    Nathan

    Hey Vicky!

Sounds like you had a lot of fun! I think it's not just the kids who never have realized that God wants to be that close to them, I think that goes for a lot of adults as well. Allright, okay, I'll speak for myself:)

My weekend... well, a friend of mine is going to celebrate her birthday so thats where I'm hanging out this weekend. Right now, I'm with my brother and sister-in-law and their 2 little boys, they're soooo cute!!

Wish you a great weekend! I wish I could come, but it's a little bit too far away when you live in Holland ;)
