The Vision!

Hi there, How is the start of your week going?

I just got home from watching the movie "Once". It was an amazing film (other than the bad language..) and it really inspired me. The song "Falling Slowly" is especially great – I just bought it from iTunes and am listening to it as I type this…

The whole movie is about daring to step out on your dreams…the lead guy is a songwriter and dares to record a record. The lead female is from the Czech Republic and dares to play keyboard and even sing one of her own songs. Its also about relationships – daring to open up and trust one another. It was beautiful!

It reminded me of the need for us to dare to dream God’s dreams… to catch His vision. One of my favorites visionaries if a guy called Pete Grieg. He’s from England (hooray for the British!). One day when he was praying he started to write down a poem, a prophetic picture, a dream of what God was raising up in our generation.. It’s powerful. I want to be part of the army of prayer warrior that he describes. My favorite parts are:

"The vision is obsessively, dangerously, undeniably Jesus…"

"The vision is an army of young people…they are free from materialism…they are mobile like the wind…people write their addresses in pencil….light flickers from their every secret motive and private conversation…advertisers cannot mold them, Hollywood cannot hold them…with blood, sweat, tears and sleepless nights they pray…and their prayers summon the Hound of Heaven…This vision will come to pass"

Wow!

  • Lord, yes. I've been living like that for several years, and have, at times, found it hard and frustrating. I told my husband a few months ago I wanted to "get somewhere and plant my feet." And so we decided to move back to North Carolina, where I'm from...now we're here, I realize I don't want to plant my feet...I'm already trying to figure out how long we'll have to stay before we move on again...we thought about buying a house but now I want to rent cause I don't want anything tying us down...i want to go!

    It is powerful stuff. I like how this generation of god mentioned here is so unlike the worldly generation we could be a part of; materialistic; settled in where we are at that we wont move; too comfortable in staying put and more. An Army of God, wow what an amazing thing that would be. it reminds me of, sorry if this offends anyone, Harry Potter. In one of the books Harry makes a group called the DA or Dumbldores Army. They are all Hogwarts pupils who are determined to fight for Dumbldores honour, to uphold in their enviroment what he stood for and what they believe is right. This popped into my head because we are God's Army or GA (Cheesey I know). We should be standing up for his honour in a world which does not acknowledge him, we should uphold what he has taught us through his Big book the Bible. And we have something far greater than magic on our side - we have him!! We are mear vessles but if God chooses to use us, well wow that could be more than words themselves can express. So i pray (not as ernestly as i should i do admit) that this indeed is the generation which this vision if fulfilled in.

    How much this would rebound to the fame of our crucified Jesus Christ, the more we as Christians live that way. My God grant us the strengh.

    I know He is a complete Savior and so is worthy of our complete worship and love. He even saves our hearts from the snare of materialism, although it pulls as hard as an angry ripe tide.

    Let us wonder and marvel together at His wonderful free grace.

  • Wow! I'd heard someone read that poem before, and it's just as good now as it was then; maybe better!

    It washed over me in wave after wave of joy as I pictured all of these things coming to life in all of us. I actually read your blog post on Tuesday but didn't get a chance to reply until just now. During the last couple days, I got chills every time this poem came to mind; it's such an exciting thought!

    I met one of these people on Monday. Not just someone who is becoming like this (as many of us are), but someone who is living this in a radical way every moment. Her name is Ali Morgan, and I posted a recording of part of her testimony on my blogroll today; give it a listen if you get a chance, it's inspiring! She came from a lukewarm semi-Christian family, and God called her to Africa in a way that she could not escape, and now she's been there for months risking her life, leading people to Christ, and making a huge difference in the lives of so many - including about fifty AIDS orphans who live in an orphanage she started there. If you follow the blogroll link to her site, there are some great movies there (even one from the local news station) and some pictures and other info on her work in Africa.

    Oh yeah... also, somebody told me about "Once" a few weeks ago, and it sounded pretty awesome. I'll be sure to go see the movie when I get the chance! For now, I'm listening to the soundtrack on their official MySpace page, and lovin' it. :o)

    Hey Vick,
    Me again. VERY encouraging words...I love the quote "with blood, sweat, tears and sleepless nights they pray." I pray I can pray like that! People today seem to put very little power in prayer, but it is when we are on our faces daily, crying and listening can God truly unleash His MIGHTY power in our lives! He is waiting for us to just ask. How powerful is that?!

    As long as we know our Bible, truly know it, and live it, we'll be ready to take over the world. If we don't know our Bible, we will "suffer for lack of knowledge". In every area of life, from the arts to science to politics to military, we need Christians who will be leaders for Christ in their circle of influence, doing the best of their ability with what they have been given, being unshakable witnesses of Christ and ambassadors of love.

    I'm optimistic about the future.
  • We saw the movie and we loved it. We also make the bad language disclaimer. :)

    The movie was inspiring to me as a musician and aspiring writer. It also romanticized the simple and appreciative lifestyle of not hoarding wealth and possessions. We want that and, by God's grace, are getting there!

    I also just saw the movie and it is brilliant, just been in Ireland so brought back some memories. Have the soundtrack on repeat now :)

    The Vision, i know it from a poster in someone's house. Really inspiring, motivating and activating!

    Thanks for sharing this Vicky. It's encouraging to hear words that express similar thoughts to those that I've been working hard to process.

    I can't imagine a day when people will write my address in pen...if it happens I hope that it's only because God's plan has settled me. Until then, I'm just waiting to hear how to get to the next destination in the plan.
