Unbelievable 3D Experience!

So tonight I went to see "U2 3D", the U2 concert now showing in movie theatres in 3D… Yes I wore the weird yellow 3D glasses….here they are!

Wearing them looked pretty dumb but I promise you -they totally make it feel like you are there in the front row watching Bono, the
Edge, Larry and Adam playing in a stadium of thousands…wow!

I would totally recommend it.. I came away so inspired by the way music can touch and unite people so powerfully…Its going to inspire my songwriting a ton this week : ) The only bad part of the movie experience was that I ate a whole box of chocolate chip cookie dough bites… hmm…the diet resumes tomoro ; )

Seriously though, I had a rather disturbing moment in the movie when Bono’s "co-exist" logo flashed on the screen and he said that Christians, Jews, Muslims, were all the sons of Abraham and that we need to be one…Like religion is to blame for bloodshed and war, and that to say ‘Jesus is the only way’ is to be divisive.. Thats how it came across to me anyways… There’s something very dark about that… Any thoughts people? Share below!

bono’s push for us to co-exist is great thing. i appreciate that he wants to use his affluence to live out a mission. but he doesn’t have to tell you, me, and the other americans in movie theater’s that we need to co-exist. we are not having a problem co-existing with our fellow humans on the earth. we are not making random acts of war because of others peoples beliefs. surely bono understands that the reason evil exists in the world is because God gave humans choice, and some are choosing to reject Christ.

I remember the controversy back with the Vertigo tour whether Bono was saying “all true” or “it’s true” when referring to “Jesus, Jew, Mohammad”. But I think that got cleared up pretty quick.

Saying Jesus is the only way is divisive, I don’t think we can get around that, however I don’t think that “coexist” means there aren’t, or shouldn’t be, any differences. Only that we should be able to exist together without violence. However, I have yet to see the movie, so maybe I’ll have a better picture when I see it for myself.

When it comes to violence, I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that people have used religion to further their own aims violently. Which is such a tragedy.

You’re very right about that. As we near the end of the age, there will be a greater push for globalization and with that a one world religion. (you know what I’m talking about) There’s no way we as Christians can stop it because these things must come to pass, but we can keep a discerning eye open so that we and our brothers and sisters are not decieved like the world will be. Great to hear that you picked up on that! What do you think?

Well, I’ll be…my honey and I went to do the exact same thing tonight. Only our glasses were red and were much bigger.

Wasn’t is great…? My favorite shot was the overhead shot of the crowd jumping at the beginning of “Street”…

On several occasions, I mistook the audience in the movie raising their hands up for the dude eating popcorn and sipping on a Dr. Pepper three rows in front of me.

this too concerns me as it belittles what Jesus Christ has done for us on the cross. If anyway is good, anyway is right- then why have the Son of God die on the cross to take away the sins of the world? At the same time does this mean we go and cause tension with others- of course not. Yet Jesus Christ can cause division as He boldly states, “I am the way, truth, and life, no man comes to the Father but by Me.” Or “There is one mediator between man and God that is Jesus Christ.”
At the same time Jesus also says, “By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:35). “We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love his brother abides in death” (1 John 3:14).
Knowing Jesus as the only way should compel us to love as He did, give grace as He did, and pursue peace as He did. By this people will be drawn to the cross. For it is Christ lifted up that draws all men to Himself. I pray as a generation we do not water down this truth or accept the false teaching that we can all be one. Nice thought- but not saving truth and takes so much away from what Jesus has done for us!

I’ve had to think on this a bit and I’m not sure we should be surprise. Maybe it’s the source that make us jump back, but the reality is Christ IS divisive.

In Matthew 10:34 Christ says, “don’t suppose I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.” He understood the nature of what he was placing in front of people, and the reaction they would have to it.

I love what C.S. Lewis says in “Case for Christianity”.

“I am trying here to prevent anyone from saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him [Jesus Christ]: “I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept his claim to be God.”

That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said wouldnot be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic — on a level with a man who says he is a poached egg — or else he would be the Devil of Hell.

You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is,the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse …. You can shut him up for fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon; or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God. But let us not come up with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that option open to us. He did not intend to.”

The very nature of Christ puts people in a position where they must choose, and people by in large don’t like to choose. They want to sit in some euphoric wonderland where whatever choice they make gets them to heaven. We as Christians then will divide people. It’s inevitable.

I think when we begin to grasp that great sorrow, that some people will refuse the love of Christ, we begin to see the world through His eyes. It’s a good place to get, as dark as it can be.

Funny, I don’t believe the Muslims hold to such a “co-exist” theory. Unless, of course, we are under their domination via dhimmitude, conversion, or death.

Christians need to be bold about the truth: Christ is the only way to peace, love, and joy within the world. All other ways lead to the destruction of man, and do so in this world and the next. Using discretion when witnessing is key, and the message must be tailored to the audience but never compromised. When Christian principles of living are applied appropriately, even those who are not Christians are blessed from the fruit that flows from individuals and groups who espouse God’s love and laws.

This sort of corporate blessing in all areas of life is the best way to witness to the world: we have something that they don’t, something that they need..

Hi Vicky,

I got your blog sight from my friends Randy Elrod and Spence Smith. I just saw the film too and had a bit of a different perspective on Bono’s “coexist” mantra. I too wrote about it on my blog and thought you might be interested to see another viewpoint. I too am a Christian. I’m glad you liked the concert! It was fun, wasn’t it?
