Video for “Wonder Of The Cross”

Hi gang!

I just found this…. someone made a cool video to go with my song “Wonder of The Cross” (Directed & Edited by Justin Kintzel)

I like how he used the analogy of a homeless guy taking the beating for the guy who got attacked…

Somehow in our modern culture we lose the power of the familiar analogies.. For us in the 21st century, a “Shepherd laying down his life for his sheep” means little in our non-agricultural society… Probably the word picture that means most to me is the judge letting me go from the guilty sentence and taking my place… Our legal system is a big part of today’s society, and we see court scenes and see police cars and court rooms all the time on TV…so perhaps thats why it impacts me more than concepts of a Shepherd…

What other analogies and word pictures can we use today that have strong modern day impact, to describe what took place on the cross, to help us not lose it’s wonder by over familiarity?

Deep question!!

Vicky

Wow, what a great song and a great video.

If youl’d have told me that was something that you had produced yourself I would have believed you.

Great song Vicky. I want to go find the chords now and learn it myself!

    Vicky,

Modern day analogies of Shepherd a solder risking their life for king and country. Another example taking right stand for the truth at the cost for losing your life

Love the video! Could be really useful, and there is something so real about a modern day analogy!

Your question reminds me of a book by Nick Page ‘And now for a time of nonsense’…he talks a lot about the need for new stories and analogies in our songs and teaching. Might be a good book for people to check out if you haven’t already!

I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about what analogies and stories connect with our current western culture and it’s not going well.

So much has changed in the last 50 years even. Our military action has gone from heroic to scrutinized and in some cases vilified. Our judiciary system is about “reasonable doubt” not about justice and people no longer fear the consequences for their actions. People are wrapped up in a “me” centric worldview and don’t understand sacrifice or even giving of self.

The picture I see as potentially powerful given our current economic climate is that of debt payment. Many people understand the burden of being weighed down by financial debt and may connect with the analogy of that debt being covered by someone they didn’t know before.

Even then I wonder at its effectiveness in our lottery and American Idol society where people feel entitled to handouts but it’s the best idea I’ve got.

Wow. That’s powerful! And we could so easily make an excuse not to give because “they’ll probably waste it,” or “so many of them are fake,” or any number of other reasons that Jesus could have given. And what a great reminder of what the cross is to us and that it ought to be constantly fresh in our minds. Thanks for sharing this!

When I first saw this post – on the same day you put it up, I was viewing from my phone which doesn’t support Flash/Youtube, and I just now realized I hadn’t yet watched this.

    Vicki,
This has been a favorite song of mine since I heard you sing it in North Carolina Jan. 2008. The video is wonderful. Thanks for posting it. It really makes you think. I hope I never lose the wonder.

Wow! I was very surprised to stumble across this on here! We made this video for a campus church communion service at Liberty University, and now people are watching it on this site! Very cool. All of your comments have really been a blessing to me, and I'm so glad the video could speak to all of you in different ways. Vicki, I hope you enjoy this video, as we really enjoy the song. Such a blessing. Anyway, I saw everybody else making comments, I just wanted to jump in! :-) God bless!
