Welcome To The Weekend!

Hi friends!

How was your week? Hope it was good. Welcome to the weekend!

I’m
flying to Colorado for the Dever "SHE Tour" show. See www.sheevent.com
for details! I’ve never been to Colorado before, so I’m looking forward
to seeing what it’s like. I’ve been told the air is pretty thin out
there, so hopefully I won’t pass our during my set!

It’s been a
real encouragement to hear more of you have been using my songs, all
around the world. It reminds me that we are all family regardless of
nationality or language…we are united as worshipers around the globe!
Keep sending me your videos and I’ll feature them on the Blog like this
every now and then : )

Highlights of my week were: successfully
cooking egg burritos with no casualties (!), watching a documentary on
child trafficking called "Not For Sale", the Spring weather hitting
Nashville, managing to not eat bread or sandwiches for a week (its a
kind of diet!) and cutting my own bangs/fringe and not messing them up!! (I’m a wannabe hairstylist at heart!)

Most importantly, I
also made more time to spend with God this week… I feel like I need
to hear His voice on a bunch of different decisions, so I carved out
time this week to just be still, read, listen and journal. My favorite
thing He said to me was this:

"My yoke is easy and my burden is light" (Matthew 11:30).

I’m
sure we’ve all heard that verse hundreds of times, but this time is hit
me especially deeply. Even though I follow Jesus with all of my heart,
sometimes I feel like I still strive too much in life…I put too much
pressure on myself to work harder, to be better, or to accomplish more for
Him each day. He reminded me that I need to stop stressing myself out
with ‘doing’ and just rest in ‘being’ with Him. He reminded me that
it’s only when we are connected to "The Vine" (John 15) that we bear fruit, not
when we neglect the Vine by trying to bear fruit in our own strength.

So
He’s drawing me deeper into just ‘being’ with Him, "The Vine", and
letting the fruit and work all spring out of that place of life and
intimacy. That is the ‘yoke that’s easy’ and the ‘burden that’s light’ -
He doesn’t say "come and work for Me", He simply says "come to Me"…its all
about relationship and intimacy. May our ministries never steal us away
from that precious time with Him!

My question for our little community is this:

"In your life, how is the balance between "being with" Jesus and "doing things for" Jesus?
Is He calling you to spend more time alone with Him?"

Have a fab weekend! Enjoy these videos submitted by people from across the globe!

Vicky : )

Thanks for sharing, Vicky! (And congrats on the burritos; sounds yummy!)

I took a minute to listen to the first video; I’ll have to check out some of the others later… :o)

As to your question, I’ve certainly been over the line on this one during the last several months. My personality tends toward being overly involved (in practically everything), and it’s sad that too often I leave myself scant time for reflection.

I’ve been working to remedy this. My recent changes are toward spending more time alone reading the Bible, reading other good books (now and then – though it still makes me feel guilty sometimes!), getting regular time for worship at the keyboard, etc. It’s all been a really good change! One thought that keeps coming back lately is that we don’t seek a stronger friendship with Jesus in order to receive anything *else* as a reward, His friendship *is* the reward!

I’m working to make more time in my schedule by getting myself out from under this ridiculous to-do list I’ve been pinned under lately. Once I kill off my to-do list, I’m going to be a maniac about saying “no” more often (at least when I know I’m supposed to).

…and by the way, be careful with that diet. I’ve heard that some of those “low-carb wonders” aren’t so good for you. …and what are you dieting for anyway?!? Aren’t you just about just right? Silly girl! :o) And running’s bad for your knees! (and also not much fun if you ask me!) If you want to get your heart pumping, you should do some Dance Praise!!! ;o)

Hope you have an awesome weekend! I’ll be praying that God just blows the roof right off at the SHE event.

    Hey Vicky,
I have struggled with this one recently – a usual occurance with your blogs! I have seasons when i spend loads of time with God and it’s AMAZING and then one day i just dont spend nearly as much time with him and there is something in my head that says ‘things were ok weren’t they? Nothing disasterous happened.’ So the following day i still don’t spend enought time with God. Ect… it is like i have forgotten how awesome it is to spend time with him, how fortunate we are to just ‘come’ and be with him.
I want to improve with this – I want to know him so intimately that when he says to do something that i know it is God because i know his voice more than i know the devil’s lies and additions.
Thanks for challenging me on this today and through your blog it has allowed me to reflect on this part of my walk with God.
I’ll be praying for the weekend ahead for you :)

Wow. These are all awesome! “Captivated” grabs my heart every time – without any help from visual accompaniment… and that video is just incredible. Wow. Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow. I can’t wait for heaven where I’ll be with my Jesus face to face!

I love the skating video too… it somehow reminded me that it’s been way too long since I’ve gone to a ballet!

Low carb diets and running are great for you. We should all do a little more of that.

Being alone with Jesus versus doing for Jesus. Well, I’d say it’s pretty easy to slack on both, and that both play on each other rather well. Overall, I’d say most Christians slack on the latter, because, honestly, that’s the harder one to do.

Stephen, I’d take a break from the verbs once in a while. That kind of diet is bad for you.

Well, take it from our doc… running is good for you after all! :o) Thanks for chiming in on that, Covenant. Are you endorsing Atkins then? I’ve heard mixed reviews… Anyway, I got my rollerblades out of the closet today and I hope to make some good use of them soon; I can’t wait! I do notice that even my energy levels and emotional state are impacted when I don’t get sufficient regular exercise. I guess I have to agree with you, Covenant, people as a whole are more likely to be overly sedentary than to be overly active! A friend of mine who’s a cardiologist exercises like a fiend so that he can “eat what tastes good!” Sounds like a decent plan to me, cause I like to eat! :o)

Haha..you guys are great..I love reading the dialogues on here! And its cool to have a real Doctor in the community : ) CovenantMD – do you have a Blog too?

I’m feeling inspired by all this talk of rollerblading…time to hit the hotel gym!

Covenant, just wanted to let you know that I glanced back over my last reply on this thread this morning, and noticed that it might be interpreted a couple of different ways… that’s one of the problems with online communication where you don’t get any clues from body language! Please be assured that my tone was intended to be sincere, not sarcastic… I’m sure you’d have given me the benefit of the doubt, but I wanted to be certain that I didn’t come across the wrong way and damage a friendship!

Regarding Atkins, I know you said “low carb,” not “no carb.” I suspect that going to the extreme of no carbs for a long period of time could prove problematic, but I’m no MD. (…though I did have a fascinating conversation with a really nice nutritionist during a layover in Denver last week and she said our bodies tend to do better with a balance of carbs, fat and protein at each sitting.) Do you have any insight for us on all of that? Thanks! :o)

Also, it’d be fun to know what type of medicine you practice currently (if you don’t mind sharing that). There are so many different things you can do with an MD or a DO… My uncle has done everything from ER to laser cosmetic surgery, and my brother and sister both hope to go to Central or South America to combine medical and missions work.

I do have a blog, but I’d say facebook has taken over my blogging time these days! Any of you guys use it?

I’m an MD, and I won’t get into too many specifics here, but I work in one of the “hairier” specialties, and I really love what I do. And Jonathan, I didn’t take anything the wrong way. Believe me dude, nothing gets to me anymore, but thanks for the clarification :)

You are right, no carbs can be bad. Your body can go into what is known as a ketotic state. Stick with lots of gym and healthy foods, and you should be doing great in a few months. Atkins can be dicey depending on your medical history, so always speak with a doctor first.

    Thanks, Covenant!

I actually use Facebook and MySpace… sad, huh? :o)

I got dragged into MySpace first (by friends) and Facebook later (the same way). I don’t spend much time on either, but it’s one nice way to keep connected with friends. I’ve been having fun with Twitter lately too! Still trying to get a few more of my family and friends to sign up for that one, but it’s coming along…

If you sign the guestbook on my blog (just click on my name below to get to the front page of the blog), I’ll then have your email address and can give you my Facebook info if you want it… You can never have too many friends, right? I’m actually already MySpace/Facebook friends with a couple of the other regulars here. :o)
